Ancient Market of Kos

Greece Travel Guide|Archeological places

Ancient Market of Kos located in the eastern tip of the island and is the sequel to the port of Kos.

After the creation of the ancient city of Kos in 366 BC and recognition as an administrative center, the region experienced strong reconstruction. The ancient market consisted of three main gates, East, West and North, who would meet in the center of a large internal courtyard. The North Gate joined the market with the city walls, while the other two had different shops serving the daily needs of the Koon. The site of the ancient market is then open to the public, while access is very easy walk from the new port. In the ruins of the Agora was built the church of St. Constantine and other temples.
