In this unique corner of the earth Macedonians mountain communities still preserve the privilege of harmonious coexistence with this untamed world of mountains.

Not far from the busy ski Vasilitsa west of Mount Orliakas, lies the wonderful world of hillbilly Valia Kalda with wooded hills and the shining glades where the Pindos apagkiazoun Koupatsareika and the Vlach villages like Ziakas, the Cave, the Orchard, the Avdella. The interest here is not only focused on the delightful gifts of nature, but also in the works of people - witnesses of another lifestyle show ever in front of you in the form of stone bridges, ornate churches, robust stone houses. This season, with winter veil that covers the roads and trails, the rugged land of Pindos Greveniotikis needs attention. Although the road is asphalt and helps to move the snow is usually dense and even without that constant vigilance is required in the mountain passes and sunless places (especially early in the morning), where ice is lurking.

Immediately after (2.5 km) you find yourself at the crossroads and turn west towards the villages and Ziakas Cave. From Ziakas easily go to the cave village (4 km) after a thrilling journey that literally teeter on the edge of the rock (attention to landslides). In the village located on a naturally fortified position occupied by the early Iron Age (1100 BC), is the monastery of Panagia Spiliotissa (of 1633), known throughout Western Macedonia for the wooden temple (17th century .) and the abundance of its shareholders.

A concrete road starts from the edge of the village and downhill for 7 miles to the entrance of the gorge where the famous stone arch bridge Portitsa. It was built probably in the mid-19th century, linking the villages Cave, Monachiti, Trikomo. At this point the river is trapped in the narrow opening of the Rock and strifogyrna momentum with its search for an outlet in "Karoutes" near Trikomo.

Continuing from the Cave to approach the Vlach villages and Garden Avdella that keep even the good mountainous charm of isolation. The road "runs" in the back wooded neck, which connects with the Orliakas Vasilitsa. Then you turn to the west, you will pass the Late Byzantine Catholic Monastery of St. Nicholas will come to the Garden (23 km) at an altitude of 1.260m. In short detour (5 km) will also visit the village Avdella.

Unfortunately, many older homes that exist in the Garden, few retain their original form. The church of St. George (three-aisle basilica) is the pride of the village and known for the ornate gilded carved iconostasis.

This is truly a giant park for the Greek dimensions which occupies much of the prefectures of Ioannina and Grevena and generally includes an area designated between Metsovo in Samarina, and Konitsa Zagoria.

At the same time identifies three major zones. The conservation area "Gorge" protection area "Aoou", and the conservation area "Valia Kalda." But even so the natural environment receives intense pressure. Opening up new roads through significant biodiversity in ecosystems, forest roads are essentially open and accessible to all (illegal logging, poachers and poachers). On weekends, when weather conditions are good, the core of the National Park and Arkoudorema transformed into "national barbecue", where everyone does whatever he wants against the rules and regulations protecting the Park.

From the village of Orchard begins the forest road (usually from late November closed due to snow) and the hiking trail which leads to the famous Warm Valley (Valia Kalda) and the core of the newly established Park. The hiking trail is easy (even to some point will go by car) with relatively small slopes
