Patras Carnival - Patrino karnavali

Patras Carnival is the largest event of its kind in Greece and one of the biggest in Europe. 
There is a background history of more than 160 years. The events of Patras Carnval begin on mid January every year and last up to Green Monday (Clean Monday in Greek  tradition).

 The carnival of Patras is not a single event but a variety of events that includes balls, parades, hunting of hidden treasure, kids’ carnival. 
Its main event is in the last weekend of Carnival with the Saturday evening parade of carnival groups, the extravagant Sunday parade of floats and groups, and finally the ritual burning of king carnival at the St. Nikolaos Street wharf in the harbour of Patras. Its characteristics are spontaneity, improvisation, inspiration and volunteerism.


Once you are in Greece the period of with the Saturday evening parade you have to give a visit at Patras Carnival.

The end of the event comes with the traditional  burning of the float of the arnival King, with concerts, dances and fireworks over the town and sea.
